Doing everything to destroy the Tea Party Movement The New York Times today ran a massive (2 full pages plus 1/4 of the cover) article about the Tea Party Movement. Far from true news, this article was a liberal propaganda piece that denounced the Tea Party as a bunch of conspiracy theorists and right-wing nut jobs.
Comparing the Tea Party movement to people who want to ban the Federal Reserve, secede from the Union, stock up on guns and gold, and even harbor white supremacist sentiments (all these are mentioned in the article), the "journalist" -- using that term very loosely -- effectively marginalizes the group in the same vein as Klan members.
All of this to avoid the obvious truth: the message of smaller government resonates. It resonates with the America that the liberal elite does not encounter and refuses to accept. It resonates because the more the people look at the documents on which this country is founded, the less they trust Congress and the President to faithfully uphold them. They see, in fact, the opposite.
But, the truth is, articles like this are the only means the left still has to combat the movement. Liberals have tried and failed to stand up to the Tea Party Movement on ideological grounds. They must resort to personal attacks and rhetoric which downplays the significance of the movement. Maybe if you ignore it and marginalize it long enough, it will go away...or maybe you will find yourself removed from the power which you hold so dear.
These people are not afraid of their government, as the article puts it. The government is afraid of these people.
